Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Quang Binh - Deputy Medical Director, Head of Internal Medicine Department shared about the pneumonia epidemic caused by nCoV virus.

According to Associate Professor Tran Quang Binh, the incubation period for corona virus, the time a person has the disease, but has no symptoms, is from one to 14 days. The initial symptoms of this disease are usually a dry cough, fever and then breathing problems.
In more severe cases, there are symptoms of cough, muscle aches and fatigue, headache, shortness of breath, pneumonia, acute respiratory failure, especially acute renal failure.

This virus can be spread from person to person. A case has been identified that requires a clinical presentation (cough, high fever, shortness of breath, acute pneumonia ...) and confirmed by a Real Time (RT) test - positive for nCoV PCR, Dr. Binh stressed. strong.

Diagnosis of nCoV disease will be considered by many factors: Fever and pneumonia or interstitial pneumonia or clinically progressive respiratory distress syndrome or radiologic lesions of varying degrees without explanation by other infections or etiology, including all clinically indicated pneumonia community tests. In addition, it is necessary to consider either living or traveling in an endemic area with nCoV within the 14 days prior to symptoms.

Case of fever and respiratory symptoms (cough, shortness of breath ...) and presence in health facilities in endemic areas with confirmed cases of nCoV related to health care or exposure with sick animals, wild animals in endemic areas.

The nCoV virus outbreak is a GLOBAL medical emergency. At present, there is no specific anti-virus and no preventive vaccine so it is only possible to monitor supportive treatment. Therefore, doctors recommend that people take proactive precautions by:

  • Limited to countries where there is an epidemic.
  • Keep personal hygiene clean: wash your hands often with soap, gargle with antiseptic water.
  • Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
  • Limit contact with patients with acute respiratory infections.
  • Avoid contact with animals and pets. Wash your hands with soap before and after handling animals.
  • Wear medical masks that meet quality standards.
  • Check daily body temperature.

Wearing a mask and washing your hands often are ways to prevent the nCoV virus.

In addition to the presentation of Dr. Tran Quang Binh, doctors, nurses and hospital staff, they were also instructed on the practice of using personal protective equipment, how to take epidemic samples and protective measures, segregate patients when signs of infection.
