Weight, nutrition, supplements of vitamins and minerals ... are the top issues that mothers are interested in, but there are many questions that mothers still ask such as: how to gain weight is enough? When to see a doctor?

What eating for two really means

So consuming twice as much doesn't double your chances of having a healthy baby – instead, it's likely to mean excessive weight gain for you, which can put you at risk for pregnancy complications. ... (But you'll need to eat more if you're having more than one baby.) A woman's weight gain during pregnancy depends on many factors, including the weight of the fetus, the placenta, amniotic fluid, an increase in blood volume, increased fat, tissue and body fluids, etc.

The rate of maternal weight gain in each trimester is consistent with each stage of pregnancy development. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), weight gain during pregnancy is estimated based on the BMI of the mother before she became pregnant. BMI = weight (kg) divided by the square of height (meters).

  • If the mother has an average BMI (BMI 18.5 - 24.9 kg / m2), the weight gain should be 10-12kg.
  • If the mother is malnourished (BMI <18.5kg / m2), it is necessary to increase 13-15kg. Excessive weight gain can easily lead to intrauterine growth retardation, malnutrition of the fetus, and increased preterm birth rate.
  • If the mother is overweight, obese (BMI> 25 kg / m2) needs to reach 7-9kg during pregnancy. Excessive weight gain can lead to risks: pre-eclampsia, diabetes, increased preterm birth rate, increased caesarean birth rate.
  • In case of a pregnant mother, she should increase about 16-20.5 kg.

Scientific nutrition is a complete complement of substance groups and not every need to eat a lot as well.

From the 4th month of pregnancy, pregnant women should gain between 1.5 and 2 kg per month. Pregnant women should check their weight regularly and contact a doctor for advice if she gains less than 1 kg or more than 3 kg per month.

Mothers need to know that too little or too much weight has negative effects on the health of mothers and babies. But "eating for 2" does not mean "eating twice", it is important for the mother to have a reasonable diet to ensure enough energy.

How to ensure adequate energy?

Every mom's meal should have all kinds of food to provide enough nutrients for mom and baby. Avoid the fact that mom only eats a few dishes.

Eating science is eating enough meals with all the nutrients: protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals ... Besides, pregnant women also need supplements (iron, calcium, folic acid, vitamins according to directed by physician). Specifically:

  • Starch: Eat 2-3 cups of rice a day, usually eat bread or sweet potatoes in the morning, oats or brown rice.
  • Protein: Supplement beef, pork and chicken, do not ignore seafood such as clams, crabs, crabs, mussels, snails, worms, crabs ... to provide calcium. Eat alternately during the week for 2-3 meals each dish. In addition, each week should have 2-3 meals (carp, drift, tilapia, salmon ...) to supplement Omega 3, good for your baby's brain, enhance intelligence. 1 week can use 3-4 chicken eggs.
  • Vitamins and minerals, fiber: Mothers should eat a variety of green vegetables alternately during the week, from dark green vegetables to red, yellow purple fruits. In addition, you can drink more orange juice, passion fruit, strawberry, avocado ... and other good types during snacks.
  • Drink 2-3 glasses of fresh milk / day after the main meal 2 hours (equivalent to 1 liter of fresh milk, unsweetened or low sugar). In addition to milk, an additional 1.5 - 2 liters of water should be added including milk, soup, and fruit.
